The Brother 1034D ¾ Lay-In Thread Serger has received many excellent reviews online, both on forums and shopping sites.
Many reviewers stated despite being afraid to try Sergers in the past, either from having never operated one or just intimidation, they found the Brother to be an easy machine to learn on. It comes with very detailed instruction manual as well the CDs which show you several basic techniques and provide a lot of useful information.

can i get a serger attachment for my sewing machine model?
i have a brother LS-2220 sewing machine, and would like to get a serger for it. do they make that as an attachment for my particular machine? where could i buy it--i.e. do you think wal-mart would have one? i know nothing about sergers, i've never used one, but would like to since a lot of the projects i've been doing require it(the zig zag stitch just isn't cutting it!). thank you for all your help. 
Nope- a true serger uses 3-4 threads, not just 2, and has a blade to trim the fabric as it stitches. You really need a separate machine to do all that. (Unfortunately... I want a serger too!!!)
